Punjab flood victims to receive compensation within 45 days, Says CM Bhagwant Mann

Ludhiana: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann returned from the hospital on Thursday after 6 days. The very next day today, CM Mann held a high-level meeting with all the officials regarding the relief work being done in the state regarding the floods.

In the meeting, CM Bhagwant Mann said that paddy procurement will start from October 16. Flood victims will be compensated in 45 days. Strict orders have been given to all the officers to do a survey of the places where water has receded and submit a report soon. So that compensation can be given to the farmers soon.

I will neither sit peacefully nor let the officers sit

CM Mann said that I myself belong to a farmer’s family. When our own fields were submerged in water, we did not even have the stove lit at home. I will neither sit in peace for that long, nor will I let the officials sit in peace until the farmers get compensation. Compensation will be given in 30 to 45 days.

In case of crop loss, compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre will be given. Even after the report is prepared, we will give a week’s time so that people can tell whether the Girdawari of their land has actually been done or of those who have access to it. We will also give compensation for the houses that have been damaged and the compensation will also be increased.

The SDRF law says that a compensation of Rs 6800 should be given, but the government will provide a minimum compensation of Rs 40,000 by putting in funds from its side. Those whose animals like cows or buffaloes have been washed away will be given a compensation of Rs 37,500. The government will increase the compensation for the rest of the animals as per the rules. This is not the time to be stingy. Whether a house has collapsed or not. Even if water is dripping from the house, we will still put that house in the same account.

Out of 55 deaths, 42 have received money

Mann said that so far 55 deaths have been confirmed due to floods and rains in Punjab. The families of 42 deceased have received money. In 40 to 45 days, officials will visit each village to assess the damage. Around Diwali, a large number of cheques will be issued and given to the people. Punjab has faced a huge crisis. Punjab knows how to face crises. People themselves reached the flood-affected areas carrying ration and relief material in trolleys.

He said that today Punjab has told the whole country that it knows how to deal with disasters. Many social, religious and artist organizations have helped the people. This is the specialty of Punjab’s land that we do not let outsiders stay hungry, so how can we see our own people hungry.
