Punjab CM condemns shoe hurling incident at CJI Gavai

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday condemned the recent attempt to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, calling it a result of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) alleged anti-Schedule Caste (SC) agenda.

Speaking to the media during the filing of Rajinder Gupta’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha, Mann said the BJP has been continuously targeting weaker and underprivileged sections through its propaganda. He described the shoe-throwing incident as a direct outcome of such divisive tactics and termed it a serious threat to the judicial system, communal harmony, and brotherhood in the country.

Security Measures Ahead of Festive Season

The Chief Minister assured that the state government is keeping a strict vigil on law and order ahead of the festive season. Being a border state, Mann noted, several forces attempt to disturb peace, progress, and prosperity, but their designs would not be allowed to succeed. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place, and no one will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.

    Focus on Food Safety

Mann also expressed concern over the adulteration of food products ahead of festivals. He said he had instructed the Health Department to launch an intensive drive to check and prevent adulteration, ensuring public safety during the celebrations.

    Comments on Navjot Singh Sidhu

Taking a jibe at former Minister and cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mann remarked that anyone is free to join or leave politics. While acknowledging Sidhu’s renewed political engagement, he expressed skepticism about expecting anything new from the former cricketer-turned-politician, suggesting he might continue pursuing his earlier agenda. Mann extended best wishes to Sidhu for his new political journey.
