Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday introduced the “Easy Registry” initiative, aimed at making property registration simpler, faster and more transparent for people across the state.

The Chief Minister said that for years, property registration had been seen as a complex and time-consuming process, often forcing citizens to make multiple visits to Sub-Registrar offices and face delays and alleged corruption.

Registration Now Possible at Any Sub-Registrar Office Within a District

Mann said that earlier, people were required to visit the Sub-Registrar office located in the area where the property was situated, which caused inconvenience and added to the burden on citizens.

Under the new “Easy Registry” system, however, property registration can now be completed at any Sub-Registrar office within the same district, regardless of where the property is located. He described this as a new era of simplicity and efficiency in Punjab’s registration system, claiming it to be the first such initiative of its kind in India.

Online Drafting and 48-Hour Timeline Introduced

As part of the initiative, citizens will be able to draft sale deeds online or through Sewa Kendras by paying a nominal fee of Rs 500. Mann added that under the “Sarkar Tuhade Dwaar” scheme, people can call 1076 to access this facility.

He said documents can be submitted completely online within 48 hours, and tehsildars will no longer have the authority to raise unnecessary objections during registration.

Clear Accountability and Digital Updates

The Chief Minister said a fixed 48-hour timeframe has been set for the registration process. In case of any objection, the matter will be referred to the Deputy Commissioner, who will verify whether it is genuine.

Applicants will receive updates at every stage of the registration process through WhatsApp. Mann added that if anyone demands a bribe, citizens can directly register a complaint via WhatsApp, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the system.

Old System Replaced With Citizen-Friendly Approach

Mann recalled that earlier, registrations were strictly limited to the Sub-Registrar office under whose jurisdiction the property fell. He said the new initiative removes this restriction and reflects the government’s commitment to citizen-centric governance.
