Historic Decision: Sri Anandpur Sahib, Amritsar, and Talwandi Sabo Declared “Holy Cities”

Chandigarh: A special session of the Punjab Assembly has begun in Sri Anandpur Sahib. For the first time in history, this session is being held outside Chandigarh.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann moved a resolution during the ongoing special Vidhan Sabha session in Anandpur Sahib, demanding the declaration of Amritsar (Darbar Sahib ‘Gateway’), Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo as holy cities.

Ban on Meat, Alcohol, and Tobacco in Proposed Holy Cities

The Chief Minister said in the House that there should be a complete ban on the sale and consumption of meat, alcohol and tobacco in these cities. Apart from this, the resolution suggests forming an all-faith committee in all three cities, which should include representatives of all religions.

Government Development Plans for the Cities

According to this resolution, the Punjab government will allocate sufficient budget for the development of these cities and the central government will also be requested to provide financial assistance.

Vidhan Sabha Begins Detailed Discussion

After the Chief Minister’s resolution, a detailed discussion on this issue has started in the Vidhan Sabha.
