Punjab CM wrote a letter to the Prime Minister: demanded the pending 60 thousand crores to deal with the flood

Punjab: Nine districts of Punjab are currently in the grip of floods. On one hand, people’s houses are flooded. On the other hand, even crops have been destroyed. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has also expressed concern over the flood situation in the state. He has demanded the immediate release of the pending fund of Rs 60,000 crore from the central government.

More than a thousand villages are affected by floods

The CM said in the letter that so far more than 1000 villages and lakhs of people have been affected by the floods, while about 3 lakh acres of agricultural land has been submerged. The maximum impact of the floods has been seen in Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Hoshiarpur districts.

Ready to pay compensation of 50 thousand per acre

The Chief Minister has requested the Prime Minister to make changes in the rules of SDRF so that farmers can be given compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for the damage caused by the floods. Mann also made it clear that the Punjab government is ready to give Rs 50,000 per acre compensation to the farmers, but the consent of the central government is necessary for this.

There was 74% more rainfall than normal

In August 2025, a total of 253.7 mm of rain fell in Punjab, which is 74% more than the normal rainfall. Normally, Punjab receives 146.2 mm of rain in the month of August. This information has been given by the Meteorological Department. People are facing trouble in this weather. At the same time, holidays have been declared by the government till date.
