Punjab Congress to Hold Key Meeting Under Bhupesh Baghel and Raja Warring Amid Party Turmoil

Chandigarh: The Indian National Congress in Punjab has begun preparations for Mission 2027. Following the conclusion of MNREGA rallies, a crucial strategy meeting will be held under the leadership of Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel and state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

All district presidents, candidates who contested the 2022 Assembly elections, and party MLAs are expected to attend. Senior leaders will gather feedback on the political situation in the state and chalk out future strategies ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Crucial Timing Amid Internal Turmoil

The meeting comes at a sensitive time for the Punjab Congress, which is witnessing internal friction.

Recently, Bhupesh Baghel stated that if former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed a desire to return to the Congress, the party high command would consider it. His remarks came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a notice to Captain Amarinder Singh.

However, Raja Warring clarified that Baghel’s statement was being misinterpreted. He emphasized that there is a significant difference between “considering” a request and “welcoming” someone back into the party. According to Warring, any such decision would follow due process at the high command level.

Mixed Reactions Within the Party

The remarks triggered varied reactions within party ranks. Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa dismissed speculation surrounding Captain Amarinder Singh’s return as “vava-hawai” (baseless talk).

Meanwhile, leaders like Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu have maintained silence on the issue so far.

Raja Warring reiterated that the Punjab Congress remains united despite political speculation.

Rahul Gandhi’s Strict Message on Discipline

Earlier in January, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi chaired a key meeting in Delhi with Punjab leaders. The party high command reportedly issued strict instructions emphasizing discipline, unity, and collective leadership in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Leaders were warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated, and the party must fight the upcoming elections with a united front.

Earlier this month, another meeting of district presidents was held in Jalandhar to strengthen the party organization at the grassroots level.
