Punjab Congress President Raja Warring meets injured sanitation workers, condemns police action in Barnala

Barnala: The political atmosphere has heated up over the police lathi-charge on sanitation workers in Barnala, Punjab. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring visited the hospital on Sunday, where he met the sanitation workers injured in the lathi-charge and inquired about their well-being.

During the meeting, Raja Warring described the sanitation workers as “Rabb Da Banda” (God’s people) and said that the lathi-charge on workers who serve society was highly condemnable. He alleged that the Bhagwant Mann-led government was adopting an anti-Dalit stance and had used the police to suppress the voices of workers protesting for their legitimate demands.

Announces ₹1 lakh assistance for injured workers

Raja Warring also announced ₹1 lakh financial assistance for the treatment of the injured sanitation workers. He said the amount would help meet their medical expenses and assured the victims that the Congress party would continue to stand firmly with them until they receive justice. He further said that those responsible for the police action would be held accountable.

Congress vows to continue fight for workers’ rights

The Punjab Congress chief said that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to raise their demands peacefully, but the government chose to use force instead of dialogue. He reiterated that the Congress has always fought for workers’ rights and would continue to support the sanitation workers in their struggle.

Opposition demands impartial probe

Several sanitation workers were injured after police resorted to a lathi-charge during a protest in Barnala. The incident has sparked a political storm, with the opposition intensifying its attack on the state government and demanding an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible.
