7 districts of Punjab in the grip of flood: 1.30 lakh cusecs of water released from Pong Dam, no rain alert

No alert has been issued regarding rain in Punjab today. Light to normal rain may occur in some areas, and the weather is expected to remain largely unchanged for the next four days. However, it is estimated that the situation will change again from August 23, and the monsoon will become active once again.

Meanwhile, seven districts of Punjab are facing floods. The water level of Pong Dam has exceeded the danger mark, resulting in continuous water release from there. Recently, about 1.30 lakh cusecs of water were released. Due to this, the water level of the Beas River is expected to increase further today. Its effect will be seen more in districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran.

At present, Sultanpur Lodhi and Tarn Taran districts of Kapurthala are already affected by floods. Water is also being released from Harike Heads of Tarn Taran, due to which the effect has reached the Fazilka district. If the water level of Beas river increases further, many villages of Amritsar can also be submerged.

Increase in temperature in Punjab
Punjab is continuously receiving less than normal rainfall. Rainfall occurred in only a few districts of the state yesterday. Due to which a slight increase of 1.8 degrees has been observed in the temperature, although it remains close to normal. At the same time, the hottest city of the state was Bathinda, where the temperature was recorded at 36 degrees.

The temperature in Amritsar, Punjab was recorded at 32.3 degrees, Ludhiana at 33.2 degrees, Patiala at 32.2 degrees, and Pathankot at 31.6 degrees. At the same time, light rain was traced in Amritsar, while 7.5 mm of rain was observed in Pathankot, 5.5 mm in Fazilka, 0.5 mm in Hoshiarpur.

18 percent less rainfall in Punjab

Like July, the state has also witnessed 18 percent less rainfall in the month of August. According to the Meteorological Department, the state usually receives 98.7 mm of rain in the month of August, whereas this month only 81 percent rain has been observed in the state.
