AAP Announces First List of 40 Candidates for Punjab Elections 2027

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its first list of candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections today. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party’s Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia announced the candidate names in Delhi.

A meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) was held at AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi to finalise the candidates.

Here’s the list of announced AAP Candidates for Punjab Assembly Elections 2025:

CM Bhagwant Mann Leaves for PAC Meeting

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has left for the meeting. Earlier, Manish Sisodia and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema had reached Kejriwal’s residence.

AAP Punjab president Aman Arora and other senior party leaders are also expected to participate in the candidate-selection process.

AAP Appointed Constituency In-Charges in 19 Seats

Between February and October 2026, AAP appointed new constituency in-charges in around 19 Assembly segments in Punjab.

Some of these constituencies currently have AAP MLAs, while others are represented by legislators from the Congress, BJP and other opposition parties.

The appointment of constituency in-charges has fuelled speculation about possible changes in the party’s candidate list for the 2027 elections.

Speculation Over 30-40 Sitting MLAs Losing Tickets

Ahead of the candidate announcement, political discussions have emerged suggesting that AAP could replace 30 to 40 sitting MLAs in the 2027 elections.

Media reports citing party sources have suggested that the leadership may consider new faces based on ground surveys and feedback. However, the party has not officially confirmed any such large-scale replacement plan.

The party leadership has indicated that factors such as regional equations, public popularity, performance and organisational feedback may play an important role in candidate selection.

AAP currently has 94 MLAs in the 117-member Punjab Assembly and faces the challenge of retaining power in the 2027 elections.

The party has also established a feedback mechanism across all 117 Assembly constituencies. Under this arrangement, six sector in-charges have been appointed in each constituency to collect public feedback on government schemes and the party’s performance.

AAP Won 92 Seats in 2022 Punjab Elections

In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory by winning 92 of the 117 Assembly seats, paving the way for Bhagwant Mann to become Chief Minister.

For the 2027 elections, the party is expected to highlight its work in areas such as free electricity, education, healthcare, employment and development.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have been targeting the state government over issues including law and order, drug trafficking, unemployment and Punjab’s financial condition.

The first candidate list is expected to provide an indication of AAP’s strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections and whether the party plans to retain its sitting legislators or introduce new faces.
