Punjab Emerging as a Major Tourism Hub in North India with Six Mega Projects

Punjab Desk: With a bold and visionary outlook, the Punjab Government has taken significant steps to elevate the state’s tourism and hospitality sectors to new heights. These initiatives aim not only to boost tourism but also to ensure world-class facilities for citizens while strengthening the state’s economy.

Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) organized a landmark Investor Conference in Chandigarh, focused on attracting investments through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and showcasing Punjab’s immense tourism potential on a global stage. This move reflects the government’s deep commitment to building a “New Punjab” by blending the state’s rich heritage with modern development.

During this high-level meeting, the government presented six major tourism projects before leading investors, developers, and consultants from across the country. These transformative projects are expected to open new tourism avenues across Punjab. In Amritsar, a city known for its spiritual and historical significance, an Urban Ropeway Project will be launched to ease traffic flow and offer a panoramic experience of the city. Heritage sites such as Aam Khas Bagh in Sirhind and Darbar Hall in Kapurthala will be restored and converted into premium heritage hotels, providing tourists with an opportunity to experience Punjab’s royal past.

Additionally, the government plans to develop the Pinkasia Tourist Complex at Aam Khas Bagh in Ropar, expanding tourism infrastructure in the region. To promote business tourism, state-of-the-art Convention-cum-Exhibition Centres will be established in Mohali and Ludhiana two of Punjab’s major industrial hubs. These centers will position Punjab as a key destination for trade, business events, and conferences, attracting new investments and opportunities.

The core objective of the Investor Conference was to make these projects more investmentfriendly. Officials from PIDB, the Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs, and the Department of Housing & Urban Development held in-depth consultations with investors. Discussions centered on project feasibility, timelines, regulatory approvals, and operational frameworks.

The government assured investors that the PPP framework will ensure a transparent bidding process and a fair revenue-sharing model. Investors were encouraged to share their feedback openly so that project terms and conditions could be refined to be more reliable and investororiented. This step highlights the government’s commitment to meaningful engagement and long-term collaboration with the private sector. Reaffirming its dedication, the Punjab Government emphasized its goal of creating a transparent, supportive, and investor-friendly environment for the development of world-class tourism and hospitality infrastructure.

The government stated that public-private collaboration is essential to enhance the visitor experience and promote sustainable development in the tourism sector. With these forward-looking initiatives, Punjab is rapidly moving towards becoming one of North India’s most prominent and progressive tourism destinations.
