Chandigarh: Around 180 members of the Punjab Elementary Teacher Training (ETT) Teachers Union, accompanied by their families, staged a protest outside the residence of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema over their long-pending demands, including regularisation.
The protesters were later detained by the police and taken to the Sector 3 police station.
ETT Teachers Raise Long-Pending Demands
The protesting teachers said they have been seeking justice for nearly 10 years and alleged that their concerns have remained unresolved despite repeated representations before the authorities.
One of the protesters said they were demanding action against an Education Department clerk allegedly involved in a major scam.
“We are demanding the suspension of the Education Department clerk who orchestrated such a massive scam to accommodate his own people. We are fighting for our rights,” the protester said.

Protesters Allege Government Has Failed to Act
The protester further alleged that the Education Minister and the Finance Minister had claimed they lacked the authority to suspend the clerk and had promised to arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister.
“The Education Minister and the Finance Minister claim they lack the authority to suspend the clerk and promise to arrange a meeting with the CM, yet nothing has happened to date. They are merely making excuses,” the protester said.
The teachers said they would continue their fight for their rights and sought action on their pending demands, including regularisation.
Police detained the protesters during the demonstration and shifted them to the Sector 3 police station.
