Punjab Farmers’ Bike Rally in Chandigarh Today: Traffic Diversions Announced Over Protest Against India-US Trade Agreement

Chandigarh: Traffic movement in Chandigarh is likely to be affected on Monday as farmers from Punjab take out a bike rally from Mohali to Chandigarh to protest against the India-US trade agreement, along with issues related to water and land policies.

The rally, led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rajewal), will begin from Mohali and conclude at the Exhibition Ground in Sector 34, Chandigarh, where farmers will submit two memoranda addressed to the Prime Minister through the Punjab Chief Minister and the Governor.

Traffic Diversions Between 10:30 AM and 3 PM

Chandigarh Police has made security arrangements and announced traffic restrictions in view of the farmers’ protest.

Traffic diversions will remain in place on several major routes between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Movement on some roads may also be restricted during the rally.

Police have advised commuters to check alternate routes before travelling and cooperate with traffic officials to avoid inconvenience.

Farmers From Across Punjab to Join Rally

According to BKU (Rajewal) National President Balbir Singh Rajewal, farmers from all districts of Punjab will participate in the motorcycle rally.

Calling it a state-wide protest, Rajewal said farmers would gather in Chandigarh to raise concerns over the central government’s policies, including the proposed India-US trade agreement and Punjab-related issues concerning water and land.

However, the organisation has not announced any official estimate regarding the number of participants expected to join the rally.

    Earlier Protest Also Affected Traffic

The latest rally comes days after several farmer organisations held a protest at the Sector 34 Exhibition Ground on July 11 against the India-US trade agreement and land policies.

During that protest, farmers had reached the venue by buses and later returned, but the gathering led to traffic disruptions in parts of the city.

Following the earlier inconvenience, Chandigarh Police has increased preparations to manage traffic flow and ensure smooth movement for residents during Monday’s protest.
