Punjab Farmers’ Protest Continues Into Day 3, Singer Resham Anmol Shows Support

Chandigarh: The permanent protest initiated by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha near Sector 48 on the Chandigarh-Mohali border continues for the third day. Workers from farmers’ and labor organizations from various districts of Punjab are continuously arriving at the protest site. Punjabi artists have also begun arriving to support the farmers’ movement.

Punjabi singer Resham Singh Anmol also arrived at the protest site on Wednesday. He participated in the langar service and massaged the feet of the women engaged in the service. His arrival brought enthusiasm to the farmers and supporters present at the protest site.

Farmer leaders warn government of intensifying protests

Balbir Singh Rajewal, head of the Kisan Union (Rajewal), said that farmers, who produce a large amount of food for the country, are now forced to sit on the streets demanding justice and rights. He described this as a matter of serious concern for the government.

Rajewal appealed to farmers to unite and continue their struggle. He said that if the government enters into any agreement with the United States that impacts farmers’ interests, nationwide “chakka jam” and “rail roko” (road blockade) movements will be carried out.

He said that if the government does not heed their demands, the ongoing protest near Sector 48 could be further escalated. Farmers are vowing to continue their protest until their demands are met.

Fears of traffic disruption due to increased tractor-trolleys

Due to the protest, farmers have gathered on one side of the road from Jagatpura to Sector 48, while vehicular traffic remains on the other side.

On Wednesday, a large number of tractor-trolleys arrived at the protest site. They were parked along the roadside and in available spaces. Farmer leaders say that an increase in the number of vehicles in the coming days could disrupt traffic in the surrounding areas.

Farmers Arriving from Far-Round Districts

Farmers from many remote districts of Punjab, including Mansa, are continuously arriving at the protest site. Farmers say that if their demands can be met after a long protest in Delhi, they will not back down from their rights here either.

Farmers who reached the protest expressed their displeasure with the government and said that the struggle will continue until their demands are met.

Dissatisfaction with Electricity, Water, and Other Facilities

Dissatisfaction with the lack of basic amenities, such as electricity, water, mobile toilets, and accommodation, has also been expressed at the protest site. From the stage, farmer leaders demanded the government provide adequate facilities for the protesters.

Farmer leaders warned that if the people participating in the protest do not receive the necessary facilities, the movement could be intensified. Farmer leaders said that they would address the farmers from the stage at around 11 am on Wednesday.
