Punjab farmlands disappear as fields inundated; farmers worried

The floods in Punjab have wreaked havoc. Crops on millions of acres have been destroyed, leaving people homeless. Rivers have inundated thousands of acres of cultivable land. Now, as the water recedes, farmers are facing the challenge of identifying their land.

The sand and silt carried by the floodwaters have erased the demarcation of their land. Farmers are now unable to identify which fields belong to them. Flood-stricken farmers are now scrambling to find their fields. The loss of demarcation is also likely to lead to increased boundary disputes, further exacerbating the problems for the Revenue Department.

Demarcation will resume once the situation normalizes.
Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Guramneet Singh said that the floods have erased the demarcation of fields. One lakh acres of agricultural land have been wiped out, leaving farmers unable to identify their fields. A state revenue official stated that this problem is prevalent in all districts. They are waiting for things to return to normal so that relief work is not hampered. Only after that will we resume demarcation.

600 Acres of Agricultural Land in Sasrali Submerged in the River

Meanwhile, Congress MP Amar Singh stated that Sasrali, a village in his Lok Sabha constituency, is submerged in the Sutlej River, where the Sutlej River changed course and submerged 500 to 600 acres of agricultural land. The government should investigate the entire matter and provide relief to the farmers.

200 Acres of Land Submerged in the Sutlej River

The Sutlej River floods have submerged 200 acres of village land. Farmer Praveen Dhawan stated that he has no hope of the government providing any compensation for his land.

Meanwhile, Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that if the boundary of any farmer’s field is affected, then his revenue record will be checked and his land will be marked before the next crop season.
