Flood situation remains serious in Punjab: Bhakra’s water level near danger mark, Cabinet meeting today

The flood situation in Punjab remains serious, despite no rain alerts being issued for the next five days. This is great news for the state. Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations have intensified. The work of filling the Dhussi dam, broken by the Ravi river in Ramdas, Amritsar, is going on, while the water level has started decreasing at many places from Pathankot to Tarn Taran.

The dam of Sutlej river near Sasrali village of Ludhiana district has become very weak. There is pressure of a strong flow on the dam, due to which there is a danger of flooding in 14 villages. The administration has issued an alert and appealed to the people to go to safe places. On the other hand, the water of the Sutlej has reached the dam in the Machhiwara area as well.

The water level of Bhakra Dam is now just one foot below the danger mark. Due to the continuous increase in the inflow of water, all four flood gates have been opened by 10-10 feet. Its effect is being seen till Rupnagar, Ludhiana and Harike Headwork.

Cabinet meeting at CM Residence 

The cabinet meeting of the Punjab government will be held today at the CM’s residence. Important decisions can be taken in the meeting to help the flood-affected people. At the same time, NDRF teams have been deployed in Patiala in view of the water level of the Ghaggar River. The administration has appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to rumors and to trust only official information.
