Punjab Flood Crisis: CM Bhagwant Mann leads relief efforts, Ministers donate one month salary

Chandigarh, August 29: Amid the flood situation in 7 districts of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called an emergency meeting of ministers and officials in Chandigarh. In this meeting, feedback on the flood situation will be taken and further strategy will be prepared. Earlier, the CM had formed a high level committee of ministers, which has returned after taking stock of the affected areas. At the same time, Haryana CM Nayab Saini wrote a letter to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann for help.

Visited Gurdaspur and Beas

CM Bhagwant Mann has been visiting flood-affected areas for two consecutive days. Earlier, he took stock of Gurdaspur and Pathankot and also made his helicopter available for government work. After this, he also went to Beas and Ajnala area and inspected the situation. However, the opposition had earlier tried to corner the CM on the pretext of his tour of Tamil Nadu.

There is 5 to 7 feet of water

7 districts of Punjab Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Fazilka and Ferozepur have been most affected by the floods. People’s houses are filled with 5 to 7 feet of water. Animal fodder has run out. People are spending time sitting in relief camps or on the roofs of their houses. But the damage caused by the floods has not been assessed yet. Experts say that a proper study will be possible only after the water recedes. At this time the government’s focus is on saving people safely.

One month’s salary given

117 MLAs, ministers and MPs of the Punjab government are active in their respective areas. At the same time, the government decided last night that all the ministers and MLAs will donate one month’s salary for flood relief work. Apart from this, social welfare organizations are also engaged in this work. It is hoped that this will provide relief to the people.

Haryana also came forward to help

Neighboring state Haryana has also extended a helping hand to Punjab. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini has written a letter to the Punjab CM saying that if any kind of help is needed, he is ready to cooperate. However, when the floods came in 2023, it was alleged that Haryana and Rajasthan come to Punjab for water in summer, but Punjab alone is left to drown in the rainy water.
