Punjab Flood Crisis: All 23 Districts Affected, 1400 Villages Submerged, 30 Dead

Amritsar, Sep 3: All 23 districts of Punjab are currently facing floods. Heavy rains are continuously occurring at many places, due to which the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for today.

Heavy to very heavy rains have been warned in some areas. According to government data, about 1400 villages in the state are submerged in water. Among these, 324 villages of Gurdaspur have been affected the most.

135 villages in Amritsar, 134 in Barnala and 119 in Hoshiarpur have been affected. So far, three and a half lakh people are in trouble due to the floods. At the same time, 30 people have died and 3 people are still missing.

Heavy rain alert till 9 am

Heavy rain is likely in some parts of Sangrur, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Samana, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Chandigarh, Kharar, Ludhiana (East), Chamkaur Sahib, Samrala, Rupnagar, Raikot, Ludhiana (West), Phillaur, Nawanshahr.

Tarn Taran declared as Highly Flood-affected Area,

The water level of Bhakra Dam has reached 1677 feet, which is just three feet below the danger mark. The flood gates of the dam have been opened up to seven feet and about 50,000 cusecs of water is being released.

After releasing three lakh five thousand cusecs of water from Harike Pattan Head Works, the administration has declared Tarn Taran as a high flood area. The impact of this water will reach many villages of Fazilka and Ferozepur.

Centre should release Punjab’s 60 thousand crores.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will visit Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Pathankot to review the flood affected areas. Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has expressed hope from the central government that the withheld 60 thousand crores will be released. He said that he is demanding his rights from the Centre, not begging. Meanwhile, in Nakodar area, there was a bitterness between AAP MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann and farmer leaders regarding flood management.

IPS will donate one day’s salary

In this hour of crisis caused by floods in the state, all IPS officers of Punjab Police have decided to donate one day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the police stands with its people.

Possibility of rain in these areas

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of thunderstorms/lightning/heavy to very heavy rains at some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur districts. Similarly, there is a possibility of thunderstorms/lightning/heavy rains at isolated places in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Mohali.

Light to moderate rain is expected at most places in Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts.
