Roads submerged due to rain in Jalandhar: All departments alert; Schools, colleges shut

Jalandhar, Sep 1: 9 districts of Punjab are currently facing floods. These include Fazilka, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Gurdaspur and Barnala. But Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Phagwara have been receiving heavy rainfall since late night. In view of the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges today i.e. on 1 September.

Water has filled even in those areas of the city today, which had never been filled with water till date. Regarding the heavy rain since early morning, Jalandhar DC Dr Himanshu Aggarwal issued a message for the district residents and said that there is no need to panic, the district administration teams are on alert. According to the Meteorological Department, there is an alert of heavy rain in Kapurthala along with the entire Jalandhar city and rural areas.

Water filled in the basements of shops, loss of crores

The rain in Jalandhar city caused such a bad situation that even the posh areas of the city were affected. Defence Colony, Model Town, PPR Market, Adarsh ​​Nagar and other areas were flooded with water. The shops of people whose shops were in the basement were filled with water, causing losses worth crores of rupees.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said- Due to continuous rain for the last several hours, water has accumulated at many places in the city and power supply has also been disrupted at some places. You do not need to panic, because teams of all departments of the administration have been deployed and the situation will be normalized soon.
