Punjab Floods: 1018 Villages Affected, 11,000 Rescued as Relief Operations Intensify

Amritsar, Aug 31: 9 districts of Punjab are in the grip of floods. A total of 1018 villages have been affected. People’s houses and fields have been submerged in water. There has been heavy damage to everything from houses to crops. The government, 11 teams of NDRF and army teams in four districts are engaged in relief and rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in some places of the state today. These districts include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar.

Ravi wreaks havoc in 80 villages. Due to the rising water level of the Ravi river, the Dhussi dam in Ghonewale, Gurdaspur broke. Due to this, the water reached Ajnala town, which is about 15 km away. Due to this flood, 80 villages have been submerged in water.

Crops damaged in six districts

In Fazilka district, 16,632 hectares (41,099 acres) of land has been affected by the floods. Apart from this, 10,806 hectares of crops have been damaged in Ferozepur, 11,620 in Kapurthala, 7,000 in Pathankot, 9,928 in Tarn Taran and 5,287 hectares in Hoshiarpur.

So far 11,330 people have been rescued

Relief teams have rescued 11,330 people from the floods. These include 2,819 from Ferozepur, 1,052 from Hoshiarpur, 240 from Kapurthala, 4,771 from Gurdaspur, 24 from Moga, 1,100 from Pathankot, 60 from Tarn Taran, 25 from Barnala and 1,239 from Fazilka.

77 relief camps operated

Out of the total 87 relief camps set up in the flood affected districts, 77 are currently active. 4,729 people are staying in them.

Announcement to give the show’s income to flood victims

Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa announced during his concert in Alberta that he is donating the proceeds from his first show to the flood-affected people of Punjab. He also played a video of Punjab floods during his performance. Earlier, Satinder Sartaj had sent ration trucks to several districts to provide ration to flood victims for a month. While many singers are busy in the flood-affected areas.

0.1 degree rise in temperature

According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, there is a possibility of thunder, lightning and heavy rain at different places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar districts. At the same time, light to moderate rain may occur at many places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar. Light to moderate rain is also expected at some places in the remaining districts.

Meanwhile, the temperature in the state has increased by 0.1 degree. Currently, it is recorded 2.2 degrees below normal. The highest temperature of 35 degrees was recorded in Pathankot.
