Jalandhar gangster injured in exchange of fire with Police, Ammunition recovered

Jalandhar: A gangster accused of attacking Gurinder Singh, the village head of Happowal village in Nawanshahr, Punjab, engaged in a shootout with police on the Banga-Phagwara main road. The accused was shot in the leg during the exchange of fire and has been admitted to a government hospital.

According to police, the injured gangster has been identified as Karanjit Singh alias Jassa, son of Surinder Singh, a resident of Phillaur, Jalandhar. The police team had taken the accused to Banga-Phagwara Road to recover his hidden weapons and ammunition. When the team arrived at an abandoned building opposite a resort, Jassa pulled out his .32-bore revolver and opened fire on the police.

A total of five bullets were fired both ways.

The police retaliated and opened fire in self-defence. A total of five shots were fired, three from the gangsters and two from the police. One bullet struck Jassa in the leg, injuring him. He was apprehended at the scene. Police said a revolver and live ammunition were recovered from the scene.

At present, after receiving treatment in the hospital, the accused will be taken on remand for further questioning. The investigation into the case is ongoing. At the same time, the accused’s links will be investigated to determine which criminals he was in contact with.
