Amritsar: The Punjab government will soon operate minibuses from cities to villages to make travel easier for people. In this regard, the government has decided to purchase 100 minibuses.
Services Likely to Begin by February–March
If all goes well, these buses will be running on Punjab’s roads by the end of February or March. The government has issued a tender for this purpose. A pre-bid meeting of the participating companies will be held on January 23rd. Following this, a final decision will be made after financial bids are invited.
505 permits given to mini bus operators
These buses will be purchased through the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC). The buses will be environmentally friendly. All buses will be BS-VI emission-compliant city/urban buses (OBDA type). It is expected that this will create new employment opportunities.
19,000 Kilometres of Rural Roads to Be Covered
The people of the area will also benefit. A month ago, the government granted permits to 505 minibus operators. The government’s rule is that each minibus will cover five to six villages, a 35-kilometre round trip. 19,000 kilometres of rural roads will be built.
The government will buy 1300 buses this year
The Punjab government will be working to acquire approximately 1,300 buses this year. This includes 950 buses for Punjab Roadways and PRTC. It is expected that 483 buses will be acquired under the kilometer scheme. Electric buses and minibuses will also be included. 100 minibuses will be added to the fleet, which will operate on shorter routes.
