Punjab Government’s Cabinet Meeting Today; second meet in three days

The Punjab government is set to hold a crucial Cabinet meeting today. This marks the second such meeting within a span of three days. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Chief Minister’s residence at 12:00 PM. Decisions regarding future elections are likely to be taken during this session. It is widely anticipated that a major decision could emerge from this meeting.

While the official agenda for the meeting has not yet been released, it is understood that, now that the local body elections have concluded, the process for electing heads and mayors is set to commence shortly.

Consequently, funds may be released for infrastructure development and various development projects in urban areas. Furthermore, a framework for the regular recruitment of personnel to fill vacant positions across various government departments may be finalized. Additionally, other matters are also expected to receive official approval during the meeting.

Decision to Regularize 65,000 Employees

During a pivotal meeting of the Punjab Cabinet held in Chandigarh on May 30, 2026—presided over by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann—approval was granted to regularize the services of over 65,000 kacche (temporary/outsourced/contractual) employees. It was further announced that an ordinance regarding this matter would now be forwarded to the Governor; implementation of the decision can proceed once approval is received from that office. Additionally, a new bill pertaining to this issue is slated to be introduced during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Assembly.

Government’s Entire Focus Now Shifts to Elections

The government has now directed its entire focus toward the upcoming Assembly elections. Consequently, the administration is making decisions with the public interest and welfare firmly in mind. Recent initiatives include the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme, the ‘Meri Rasoi’ (My Kitchen) Scheme, and the commencement of registration for the scheme providing a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to women.

Furthermore, significant emphasis is being placed on the youth; to date, government jobs have been provided to young individuals across more than 65,000 positions. Additionally, the government continues to prioritize efforts to combat drug abuse and address other critical social issues.
