Punjab Governor Inaugurates Rooftop Solar Plant, Rainwater Harvesting System at BBMB Rest House

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday inaugurated a 55 kWp rooftop solar power plant and a rainwater harvesting system at the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Officers Rest House in Sector 35-B, Chandigarh.

The project, executed by BBMB, is expected to generate around 77,088 units of electricity annually, contributing to clean and green energy while reducing the carbon footprint. Officials said the move aligns with the Centre’s push for renewable energy adoption.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Kataria lauded the initiative as a “significant step” towards clean energy and environmental protection, adding that it reflects BBMB’s commitment to sustainable development.

BBMB Chairman Manoj Tripathi said the board was “taking strong steps towards energy independence” by adopting solar energy and supporting the nation’s renewable energy goals.

Alongside the solar project, a rainwater harvesting system has also been installed at the site. According to officials, the system will aid water conservation and groundwater recharge, making the initiative a “balanced step” towards sustainability.
