The Punjab government has suspended Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took this action due to the increasing gangster activities in the district and the failure of the SSP to take effective action against them.
According to government sources, reports of a lack of timely action in several important cases and laxity in preventing organized crimes have surfaced. Taking this seriously, the government has taken this strict action and suspended the SSP.
Who is Maninder Singh?
Maninder Singh is an IPS officer. Before taking charge as SSP Amritsar Rural, he was posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Amritsar City Police Commissionerate. Prior to this, he also served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Tarn Taran district. After this, he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ADC) to the Governor of Punjab.
Chief Minister hinted at the Tarn Taran by-election
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said during the Tarn Taran by-election that previous governments had damaged the state’s fabric, encouraging gangsters and mafias. His government is rectifying this situation. There is no place for gangsters, smugglers, criminals, and anti-social elements in Punjab, and the government is eliminating them.
SSP Tarn Taran also suspended before the elections
The Election Commission of India suspended Tarn Taran SSP Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal before the Tarn Taran by-election. This action was taken three days before the polling. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) filed a complaint against the SSP with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, accusing her of acting as a puppet of the Aam Aadmi Party and arresting Akali Dal workers by filing false cases against them. The Election Commission took action following this.
