Punjab Govt Employees Call Off Strike After Talks, Show-Cause Notice likely to be Withdrawn

Chandigarh: Punjab government employees have decided to call off their ongoing strike following a meeting with the state government on Wednesday over their pending demands, including the Dearness Allowance (DA) issue.

A crucial meeting between the government and representatives of employee organisations was held with Chief Secretary-level officials. During the discussions, employees put forward their demands and concerns, following which both sides reportedly reached an understanding on several issues.

Show-Cause Notice Issued on August 27 Likely to Be Withdrawn

The Punjab government had earlier issued a show-cause notice on August 27 amid the employees’ strike, which had triggered resentment among government staff and their unions.

Following Wednesday’s meeting, the government is reportedly set to withdraw the notice. The development is being seen as an important step towards easing the ongoing dispute between the state government and its employees.

    Strike Had Disrupted Government Services

Government employees had launched the strike over various pending demands, which affected the functioning of government offices across Punjab. The disruption also caused inconvenience to members of the public seeking government services.

The state government had maintained that employee-related issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations rather than prolonged protests.

Further Decisions Expected on Pending Demands

According to sources, several demands were discussed during the meeting and further decisions on the outstanding issues may be taken in the coming days.

With the employees now announcing the withdrawal of their strike, the government and employee organisations are expected to continue discussions to resolve the remaining issues.
