Bomb Threat to Punjab-Haryana Secretariat Ahead of PM Modi’s Chandigarh Visit; Building Evacuated

Chandigarh: A bomb threat was reported at the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh on Friday, hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the city. Following the threat, the entire building was evacuated as security agencies launched a search operation.

The threat was reportedly received through a call made to the police control room, following which the Chandigarh Police, bomb disposal squad, dog squad and other security teams reached the spot.

Security Agencies Conduct Search Operation

As a precautionary measure, officials evacuated the Secretariat premises and carried out a detailed inspection of the building and surrounding areas.

Security was further tightened around the Secretariat, with additional personnel deployed at entry and exit points. Surveillance was also increased in nearby areas as agencies continued their investigation into the threat.

PM Modi Scheduled to Visit Chandigarh, Jalandhar

The security alert came on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Chandigarh and Jalandhar to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects worth thousands of crores.

During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate projects related to railways, roads, healthcare and other sectors. He will also participate in events in Jalandhar, including the inauguration of railway projects under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Jind in Haryana, where he flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train.

Security Arrangements Intensified Ahead of Visit

Elaborate security arrangements had already been put in place ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Following the bomb threat, security agencies increased checks across important locations in Chandigarh.

Police officials are investigating the source of the threat and further details are awaited.
