The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the demolition of houses and shops of the alleged accused under the NDPS Act without prior notice. A bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjay Beri, while posting the cases for the next hearing on November 7.
The bench ordered that the status quo should be maintained regarding the properties of the petitioners till then.
The order was given on a petition by 15 residents of Patiala, in which they had alleged that the administration was demolishing their houses and shops without any legal notice or formal process.
The petitioners said that they are not involved in any crime under the NDPS Act 1985 and their houses are completely legally constructed. The petition also claims that the administrative authorities have tried to justify the action by falsely linking their houses with drug cases.
They appealed to the High Court to put a stop to such arbitrary and unnoticeable actions. The High Court, while granting interim relief, said that no demolition action would be taken till the next hearing and all parties would file their replies.
