Chandigarh, September 23: The Punjab government today launched the registration process for its much-awaited health card scheme, which aims to provide cashless treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh per family per year. Registration camps have started in Tarn Taran and Barnala, with plans to expand to more districts in the coming days.

To register, individuals will have to bring Aadhaar card, voter ID card and passport-sized photograph. CM Bhagwant Mann has assured that the registration process will be completed within 10 to 15 days, after which the scheme will be implemented across the state.
This ambitious healthcare initiative is designed to benefit all residents of Punjab, eliminating the previous eligibility limits based on blue and yellow ration cards. With the introduction of the health card, every resident of the state becomes eligible for free medical treatment under this new health coverage system.
Key features of the health card scheme:
Coverage: Treatment up to ₹10 lakh per family per year.
Eligibility: All residents of Punjab, irrespective of income or ration card status.
Hospital Network: Both government and private hospitals will provide services under this scheme. The list of listed private hospitals is expected to be released soon.
Registration Process: Simple documents – Aadhaar card, voter ID, and passport photo. No complicated process involved.
Cashless facility: Patients will not need to spend any money during treatment. No payment process is required as the government will settle the hospital bills directly.
Coverage Scope: All diseases are expected to be covered, a detailed list of which will be released by the government soon.
Card Type: One floater card will be issued per family, which will cover all members subject to an annual limit of ₹10 lakh.
Speaking about the scheme, CM Mann said, “This health card will put an end to the complex procedures and financial worries faced by the people earlier. Our aim is to ensure that every citizen of Punjab has access to quality healthcare without bearing the financial burden.”
The Punjab government is conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns and organizing district-wise camps to ensure maximum reach and participation.
