The Punjab government is taking several initiatives in the health sector to provide better and easier healthcare services to the people. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Health and Family Welfare Department is taking action to implement the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. A government tender has also been issued to implement a unified service portal for this scheme by 2026.
What is the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana?
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana aims to make access to healthcare easier for the people of Punjab. Punjab’s State Health Agency is in the process of developing a unified service portal to implement this scheme. It is referred to as MMSY in government documents.
62 Hospitals Listed for Treatment
A total of 62 hospitals have been empanelled under the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’. These include 14 government hospitals and 48 private hospitals. This will enable people to access better healthcare facilities at hospitals closer to their homes.
Around 2,000 Types of Treatments Covered
Under the scheme, the Punjab government has prescribed approximately 2,000 treatment packages. In addition, 17 new packages that were previously available only at government hospitals have now been extended to private hospitals as well. These 17 packages include two related to ENT, five related to surgery, four related to gynaecology, three related to ophthalmology and three related to orthopaedics. This expansion will enable beneficiaries to access treatment for serious medical conditions at private hospitals without charge under the scheme, while also helping reduce the burden on government hospitals.
Emphasis on Strengthening Punjab’s Health Infrastructure
The Punjab government’s Health Department already provides services through government hospitals, Aam Aadmi Clinics, and other health centers. According to the punjab government’s HMIS portal, Punjab currently has 227 secondary health institutions, 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics, 2,511 Health and Wellness Centers and 159 AYUSH AACs. The punjab government is also working to digitize the availability of medicines, medical equipment, patient registration, and hospital management in these health institutions. Electronic health records and other digital services are managed through HMIS.
The Punjab government is working to improve access to healthcare through initiatives such as the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, Aam Aadmi Clinics, digital health services and CM di Yogashala.
