Chandigarh: Punjab is witnessing intense heat during the Nautapa period, with temperatures soaring between 40°C and 45°C across several districts. The Meteorological Department has issued a severe heatwave warning for May 27 in districts including Mohali, Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Mansa, and Sangrur, where hot winds and extreme sunlight are expected to worsen conditions during afternoon hours.

Heatwave Alert Across Multiple Districts

Health experts have advised people to remain cautious while stepping outdoors during Nautapa. Authorities recommend carrying water, covering the head, and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight for prolonged periods, as negligence can lead to dehydration, heatstroke, dizziness, and fatigue.

Thunderstorms and Hail Likely From May 28

According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions are expected to change suddenly from May 28 onward. Several parts of Punjab may witness thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h between May 28 and May 30. Districts such as Mohali, Patiala, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur are likely to experience severe weather activity.

Temperature May Drop by 6-8°C

The department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across many districts on May 29 and 30, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Temperatures are expected to fall by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius after the rainfall spell, offering respite to residents battling the ongoing heatwave.
