Punjab sizzles at 42.9°C, rain likely from April 26

The heat continues unabated in Punjab and Chandigarh. For the first time, the daytime temperature has reached 42.9 degrees. However, today (April 23) the weather will remain dry. There is no kind of alert. Yet, on April 24 and 25, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave for both consecutive days. From April 26 to 28, there is an alert for lightning and storms. Compared to Wednesday, the temperature has increased by 1.0 degree. Faridkot has recorded a temperature of 42.9 degrees.

Western disturbance will reach the mountains

According to the weather department, a western disturbance will reach the mountains today. However, it is not very strong. Warm winds will blow during the day, but the weather will change from April 25. During this period, there is a possibility of a dusty storm and some rainfall in certain areas. This will definitely provide some relief from the heat.

Temperature above 35 degrees

The maximum temperature in 19 places exceeded 35 degrees, while in 5 places the temperature went above 40 degrees. During this period, Chandigarh recorded 39.3 degrees, Chandigarh Airport 38.4 degrees, Amritsar 39.0 degrees, Ludhiana 40.0 degrees, Patiala 40.4 degrees, Pathankot 38.2 degrees, Bathinda 41.0 degrees, Faridkot 35.0 degrees, and Gurdaspur 39.0 degrees.

In Balowal Saunkhri (Nawanshahr) it was 38.5 degrees, at Bathinda Airport 42.8 degrees, and at Faridkot (AWS) the highest was 42.9 degrees. Additionally, in Abohar (Fazilka) it was 39.5 degrees, Hoshiarpur 37.8 degrees, Shaleran 37.1 degrees, Pathankot (KVK) 37.2 degrees, Thien Dam 37.0 degrees, Patiala (AWS) 38.4 degrees, Ropar 37.9 degrees, and Bhakra Dam (Ropnagar) 40.1 degrees.

This time, the heat in April is very intense. Let’s know its three reasons:

Lack of Western Disturbance
Usually in April, clouds and cold winds come from the mountains, which keeps the weather a bit cool. But this time, this system came less, so the sky remained clear and sunlight fell directly on the ground, increasing the heat.

Anti-cyclone
There is such a system over Rajasthan that pushes the air down. Because of this, clouds do not form and the weather remains clear. Clear sky means more sunlight and more heat.

Hot winds from Pakistan
Very hot and dry winds are coming from the Thar Desert and Pakistan. These winds are reaching directly to Punjab-Haryana, which has increased the temperature and created a heatwave-like situation.

Rain expected between 26 to 28

According to the Director of the Meteorological Department, Surendra Pal, there is a possibility of light rain at some places in the state from the 26th to the 28th. In the next 4 days, the maximum temperature is expected to gradually increase by 3 to 4 degrees. On the 24th and 25th, there is a possibility of heatwave (loo) conditions at some places in the state. On the 26th, 27th, and 28th, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning at some places along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h.
