Jalandhar: During the cabinet meeting held on September 8 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the cabinet has decided to regularize 1007 office employees working for 15-20 years under the Education Department, during which The government has made a big change and is preparing to make a big cut in the salaries of the employees, regarding which the education department has issued a notification.
According to the issued notification, on the one hand, the existing posts of the employees on which they are working are being abolished and on the other hand, preparations have been made to make a big cut in the salaries of the employees and reduce their salaries from 50000 to 19000, due to which there is resentment among the entire employee class. Despite providing their services to the government for 15-20 years, now the government is making a big cut in the salaries of the employees.
Issuing a press statement, District Leaders of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union, Shobhit Bhagat, Gagandeep Sharma, Rajinder Sandha, Kuldeep Singh said that office employees have been working diligently in the education department since 2005, but the successive governments have always ignored them. The office employees are demanding regularisation from 01.04.2018, and for this, the office employees have also knocked on the door of the Honourable Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The leaders said that the Punjab government has notified the regularisation of employees as per the approval of the Finance Department on 16.12.2019, but the notification has said that regularisation will be done on the basis of the Seventh Pay Commission from now on, whereas 1007 employees are already drawing salary as per the Fifth Pay Commission of Punjab.
The leaders said that regularising the employees from 01.04.2018 will not have any financial burden on the government because the employees are getting their salaries from the Government of India, while regularising them on the seventh pay scale will save the government about 23 crores, due to which the government is preparing to deduct 23 crores from the salaries of the employees and fill the treasury.
The leader of the organization said that the office employees have been working continuously for a long time, 15-20 years, so it is not right to put the office employees on probation now. Along with this, the leaders said that 120 office employees working under mid-day meal have not been included in the regularization, which is sheer oppression of the government.
The leaders said that they demand from the Punjab Government Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema and Education Minister Harjot Bains that the office employees should be regularized with full salaries from 01.04.2018 and no probation should be imposed and 120 employees working under mid-day meal should also be included.
The leaders said that if the government does not reconsider its decision, the employees will be forced to come on the streets and stop the work of the department and besiege the Chief Minister’s house and the Education Department.
