SDM promises action after 1007 Education office staff protest salary slashes in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: A delegation of 1007 office employees from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Mid-Day Meal programs attempted to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during his official visit to Jalandhar on Saturday. The protest was organised in response to a controversial notification that allegedly regularises their positions while simultaneously reducing their salaries.

The administration took a memorandum in the name of the Chief Minister on the spot and assured the delegation of employees that a meeting of the employees with the higher officials of the Chief Minister’s Office would be held soon.

Issuing a press statement, leaders of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union, Shobhit Bhagat and Gagandeep Sharma, said that the government has decided to regularise, but reducing the salaries of employees who have been working for 15-20 years is sheer pressure, and the employees will not tolerate this pressure.

The leaders said that if the government does not amend the notification, the employees will take protest to the streets.
