Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government of protecting an alleged paper leak and recruitment racket following the declaration of the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) Mains examination results. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Thursday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities.
Addressing a press conference on November 5, Bhandari questioned the recruitment process followed by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). He alleged that candidates whose roll numbers were not registered for the examination had been selected for the interview stage.
He also claimed that around 24–25 per cent of the shortlisted candidates came from a single examination centre located in the constituency of an AAP MLA.
The allegations surfaced after the PCS Mains results were declared late on Wednesday night. Bhandari questioned the selection process and alleged that several irregularities had emerged soon after the results were announced.
BJP Demands CBI Probe Into Punjab PCS Results
Bhandari alleged that the Punjab government was supporting and protecting a paper leak racket, claiming that the issue concerned the future of the state’s youth.
“The Aam Aadmi Party, which is corrupt and associated with the drug trade, is now running a paper leak mafia in Punjab under the instructions of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann. A paper leak mafia is operating in Punjab, and the government led by Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann is supporting, promoting and protecting it,” he alleged.
He demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities, particularly the selection of candidates whose roll numbers, he claimed, were not registered for the examination.
“Our demand is that the large-scale irregularities in the Punjab PCS Mains examination results, where candidates who had not even enrolled for the examination were selected and 25 per cent of the selected candidates came from a single centre located in an Aam Aadmi Party MLA’s constituency, should be investigated by the CBI,” Bhandari said.
Five Alleged Irregularities Raised by BJP
Bhandari outlined five points to support the BJP’s allegations against the recruitment process:
Unregistered roll numbers: He claimed that candidates whose roll numbers were not registered for the examination had been selected.
Concentration at one centre: He alleged that around 24–25 per cent of the shortlisted candidates came from a single examination centre.
Interview shortlisting procedure: He questioned why the standard practice of calling three times the number of candidates who appeared for the examination for interviews was allegedly not followed.
AAP MLA’s constituency: He pointed out that the examination centre in question was located in the constituency of an AAP MLA.
Delay in results: He questioned the time taken to declare the results and referred to the gap since the previous examination.
Bhandari argued that these points raised serious questions about the fairness and transparency of the selection process.
751 Candidates Shortlisted for 331 Vacancies
The Punjab Public Service Commission declared the PCS Mains results on November 4, shortlisting 751 candidates for the interview stage against 331 advertised vacancies.
The Mains examination for the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination 2025 was conducted from April 1 to April 10, 2026. The shortlisted candidates are required to undergo document scrutiny between November 11 and November 17 at the PPSC office in Patiala.
The result announcement was followed by objections from candidates, who questioned the selection pattern at certain examination centres and rooms. Some aspirants also alleged that candidates with consecutive roll numbers had been shortlisted and sought an independent investigation into the process.
The controversy has now become a political issue, with the BJP demanding a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.
The allegations made by the BJP have not been independently established. The PPSC’s response to the claims was awaited at the time of writing.
