Punjab Police arrest associate of gangster Goldy Brar; five pistols seized

Chandigarh: In a significant blow to organised crime, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has arrested an associate of foreign-based gangster Goldy Brar, recovering five .32 bore pistols and 10 cartridges from his possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Baljinder Singh alias Rainch, is a resident of Mahi Nangal in Bathinda and has a prior criminal record under the NDPS Act.

Links to Goldy Brar Network

According to DGP Yadav, the accused played a key role in supplying illegal firearms to the Goldy Brar gang with the aim of disturbing peace in Punjab. Preliminary investigations suggest the weapons were sourced on Brar’s instructions through his close aide Malkit Singh alias Kitta Bhani, currently lodged in Kapurthala Jail.

The DGP confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network.

Operation Based on Human and Technical Inputs

Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban said that police teams, led by DSP (Bathinda Range) Jaspal Singh, acted on specific human and technical intelligence about the gang’s plan to carry out a major crime in Punjab. Acting swiftly, AGTF teams apprehended Baljinder Rainch under a flyover bridge in Malout, Muktsar Sahib district.

A case has been registered at Malout under Sections 25 and 25 (7) (8) of the Arms Act.

Wider Crackdown on Cross-Border Smuggling

The arrest follows last week’s operation in which Amritsar Commissionerate Police nabbed three individuals involved in a cross-border arms and hawala network. DGP Yadav earlier revealed that the gang used drones to smuggle heroin and weapons from Pakistan, maintaining an active presence in Punjab’s border areas.

Preliminary findings indicated that the arrested accused, Harpreet Singh and Gurpal Singh, both of whom had previously travelled to Malaysia, were linked to cross-border smugglers.
