Punjab Police busts mule account gang, arrests three

Jalandhar: Punjab Police has busted a gang involved in cyber fraud using mule accounts and arrested three accused. This information was given by DGP Gaurav Yadav on Friday.

Mule accounts are bank accounts used by criminals to deposit, transfer, or conceal fraudulent funds, often without the knowledge or connivance of the account holder.

The arrested accused have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, Raman Rai, and Sukhdev Singh. All three are residents of Jalalabad, Fazilka, and operated a fake setup under the name “Brother Traders” from a rented room in Mohali, providing bank accounts.

₹20 lakh frozen, several equipment recovered
Police have frozen approximately ₹20 lakh in bank accounts linked to the accused. Additionally, 23 ATM cards, 2 laptops, 7 mobile phones, 5 SIM cards, fake bank and KYC documents, 14 checkbooks, 6 stamps, and 5,100 USDT worth of cryptocurrency were recovered.

Investigation revealed that the accused had been involved in this operation for the past two years and had earned approximately ₹50 lakh in commissions by providing bank accounts to cyber fraudsters.

According to police, the accused opened accounts using fake and morphed documents and, to avoid suspicion, created a fake business setup in Mohali, which included changing the board as needed and stocking Ayurvedic products.

Links to Chinese nationals, connection to 24 victims
Detailing the operation, Special DGP of Cyber ​​Crime V Neeraja said that this action was taken as part of the ongoing campaign against “domestic hotspots.”

The investigation revealed that the accused were connected to Chinese nationals through Telegram and provided them with bank accounts. In return, they received payments in USDT cryptocurrency.

Through the I4C coordination portal, it was discovered that these mule accounts are linked to 24 cyber fraud cases, in which an amount of ₹26.65 lakh has been placed on hold.

The police are now investigating the recovered ATM cards to identify additional victims and expose the entire network.
