Punjab Police bust Pakistan-Linked drug and arms smuggling network

Amritsar: The Counter-Intelligence Wing of the Amritsar Police in Punjab has busted an international arms and drug trafficking ring. This gang was contacting Pakistani smugglers to procure drugs. Under the guise of this drug trafficking, Pakistani agencies were also sending weapons to Punjab with the aim of disrupting the environment.

According to information shared by the DGP, two members of a smuggling group linked to Pakistan, Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, residents of Tarn Taran, were arrested in this operation. 2.5 kg of heroin and five advanced-design pistols and magazines were recovered from their possession.

The accused used to carry out illegal smuggling after taking instructions from Pakistan

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were smuggling contraband under instructions from Pakistan. The seized weapons were intended to be used to further criminal activities and hooliganism in Punjab. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC Police Station, Amritsar, and the investigation is ongoing.

Attempt to spoil the atmosphere of Punjab

DGP Gaurav Yadav has previously stated that Pakistan and its intelligence agencies are working to disrupt the atmosphere in Punjab. This is why Pakistani smugglers are sending weapons along with the ongoing shipments from Pakistan. These weapons could be used to disrupt the atmosphere during the festive season.
