Five Arrested in Earlier Amritsar Operation
The latest case comes just a week after Counter Intelligence Amritsar arrested five people in another arms and explosives smuggling case. That operation led to the recovery of an assault rifle, two hand grenades and 13 foreign-made pistols.
Those arrested included Gurpreet Singh and his son Jaskaran Singh, both from Ballarwal village in Ajnala. The other accused were Veenu from Sagarpur in Batala, Amritpal Singh from Rasulpur village in Batala and Gaurav Masih from Gounspura village in Batala.
Police also recovered 25 cartridges and seized two motorcycles allegedly used to move the weapons.
Probe Focuses on Links With Foreign Smugglers
According to the police, intelligence gathered in the earlier case pointed to links between the father-son duo and a smuggler based abroad. The two were allegedly collecting consignments of arms, ammunition and explosives dropped by drones across the border before passing them on to other operatives.
Police said the five accused were caught near Teri village in Ajnala while they were allegedly preparing to deliver a consignment.
Investigators are now working to trace the wider network and establish links between those supplying the weapons and the people handling them locally.
