Centre Ready for Procurement Season, Assures Punjab Farmers

The Central government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth and timely procurement process for farmers in Punjab ahead of the upcoming procurement season. The assurance came through a statement shared by Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, which was highlighted in a social media post by Ravneet Singh Bittu.

According to the statement, the government has already put in place all necessary arrangements to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience during the procurement process. The focus remains on providing a seamless system so that farmers can sell their crops without delays.

Preparations completed in advance

Prahlad Joshi stated that the Centre has taken proactive steps well before the procurement season to avoid last-minute challenges. Adequate infrastructure, logistics, and administrative mechanisms have been prepared to handle the expected inflow of crops at mandis.

He emphasised that coordination between central and state agencies has been strengthened to ensure that procurement operations run efficiently. This includes arrangements related to storage, transportation, and timely payments to farmers.

Focus on timely payments and MSP

A key priority for the government is to ensure that farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce without delays. The minister highlighted that all systems are being streamlined to facilitate quick payments directly to farmers’ accounts.

The Centre aims to eliminate bottlenecks that may affect the procurement cycle, ensuring that farmers get fair value for their crops. This step is expected to boost farmer confidence and encourage higher participation in the procurement process.

Relief for Punjab farmers
