The temperature has started rising in Punjab and Chandigarh due to strong sunlight during the day. The maximum temperature has increased by 0.4 degrees in a single day. However, it is still 2.8 degrees below normal. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry today, but there is a possibility of rain at some places on April 16 and 17.

Strong surface winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour for the next three days. However, there is no alert of any kind. The highest temperature recorded in Bathinda is 35.4 degrees. In April, rainfall recorded was 4.9 mm more than normal.

Current weather scenario
Above northwest India, the subtropical westerly jet stream is active at a height of about 12.6 kilometers, moving at a speed of approximately 110 knots (around 200 km per hour). Along with this, from April 15, 2026, a new yet weak western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region.

Slight change in temperature
Due to its effect, light rain or snowfall may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, while partial clouds and strong winds are likely in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. A slight change in temperature may be observed.

More rain in Fazilka and Rupnagar
In Punjab, during the month of April, from 1st April to 12th April 2026, a total average rainfall of 26.2 mm was recorded so far, which is 435 percent higher than the normal average of 4.9 mm for this period. According to districts, Mohali received 31.7 mm of rainfall, which is 1075 percent more than the normal 2.7 mm. The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Fazilka at 56.8 mm and in Rupnagar at 53.8 mm.

Meanwhile, Hoshiarpur recorded the lowest rainfall of 4.5 mm, which is 28 percent less than the normal. During the previous 24 hours up to 12th April, light to moderate rain was recorded at various places in the state, including 6.7 mm in Gurdaspur and 3.8 mm in Pathankot.

Strong winds will blow during the day. According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, light rain is likely in some places of Punjab on April 16 and 17, while the weather is expected to remain dry on the remaining days. Strong surface winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour may blow for the next three days. Over the next seven days, the maximum temperature is likely to increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, gradually enhancing the heat effect in the state.
