Punjab Rain Alert: Canal Breach in Chamkaur Sahib Leaves Road Damaged, Two Injured

Shri Chamkaur Sahib: Amidst the rain in Punjab, a large breach in the canal near Jatana village in Shri Chamkaur Sahib worsened the situation. The strong flow of water caused a portion of the main road to collapse, blocking traffic. Two bike riders passing by were seriously injured after being swept away by the water.

Road Damaged Due to Strong Flow

A large amount of water spread across the surrounding area after the canal breached. The strong flow of water damaged the road, disrupting public movement. The two young men injured in the accident were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Rain likely in 14 districts

Rain continues to lash many parts of Punjab, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Pathankot. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in 14 districts of the state today. Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali may receive scattered rainfall, while light to moderate rain is expected in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.

Chandigarh is also expected to remain cloudy and receive showers. The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for the city. On Tuesday, Rupnagar recorded 19 mm of rain, while Pathankot recorded 1.5 mm.

Monsoon weak, dams still at safe levels

According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and a western disturbance may cause rainfall in some areas. However, the monsoon is expected to remain weak in the coming days, and rainfall will be limited to limited areas.

The state’s maximum temperature dropped by 0.4 degrees Celsius, but remained 1.8 degrees above normal. Bathinda was the hottest place on Tuesday with a temperature of 35.7 degrees Celsius.

The water levels at Bhakra and Pong dams are currently below their respective FRLs. Bhakra was recorded at 1,637.1 feet and Pong at 1,368.48 feet.
