Punjab, Chandigarh Rain Alert Till July 9; 50 km/h Winds Expected, Gurdaspur Records Highest Rainfall

Chandigarh: The monsoon remains active across Punjab and Chandigarh. Over the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in Chandigarh as well as in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Faridkot, Mohali, Patiala, and Amritsar. This has led to a drop in temperatures, providing residents with relief from the humid heat.

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, weather conditions are expected to remain similar until July 9. Several districts may experience heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds. A warning has been issued for strong winds (40–50 km/h), thunderstorms, and lightning strikes across most districts of Punjab today.

A Yellow Alert for rain has been issued for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Rupnagar.

Rainfall Recorded in These Districts Over the Last 24 Hours

The highest rainfall was recorded in Punjab’s Majha region and adjoining districts. Rainfall figures include 48.2 mm in Gurdaspur, 27.2 mm in Pathankot, 10.4 mm in Faridkot, 8.5 mm in Mohali, 6.1 mm in Patiala, 4.6 mm in Chandigarh, and 2.2 mm in Amritsar. The rainfall caused temperatures to drop in several areas, bringing relief from the heat.

Bathinda Recorded the Lowest Temperature

A decline in both day and night temperatures has been observed. During the day, the highest temperature in Punjab was recorded at 36.3°C in Samrala (Ludhiana), while Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6°C. Meanwhile, Bathinda was the coolest city in Punjab at night, recording a minimum temperature of 21.6°C. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 26.4°C.

Weather Department Issues Advisory

The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre has advised people to exercise special caution during adverse weather conditions. Residents have been urged to avoid standing in open areas or beneath tall trees and electricity poles during thunderstorms and lightning.

Additionally, people have been advised to exercise caution while driving through waterlogged areas during heavy rainfall and to avoid unnecessary travel. Monsoon activity is likely to continue in Punjab and Chandigarh over the next few days.
