Punjab Weather Alert: 4-Day Storm, Rain and Strong Winds Forecast; Heatwave Likely to Ease, Faridkot Remains Hottest

The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh has taken a sharp turn, with strong winds blowing since early morning. The Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, has issued an Orange Alert for May 11, warning of dust storms, thunderstorms with lightning, and strong surface winds. Some areas may also receive light to moderate rainfall.

Strong Winds, Thunderstorms and Rain Forecast

Unstable weather conditions are expected to continue till May 14. On May 11, wind speeds may reach 50–60 km/h in several districts including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Mohali.

Other districts such as Bathinda, Moga, Ferozepur, Muktsar, Fazilka, Sangrur, and Barnala may experience winds of 40–50 km/h, along with thunderstorms and lightning activity. Isolated rainfall is also likely across most parts of Punjab.

Temperatures Cross 40°C Again

After a brief relief, temperatures have once again crossed the 40-degree mark in Punjab. Faridkot recorded the highest temperature at 42.8°C, followed by Bathinda at 40.9°C.

Other major readings include the following:

• Fazilka: 39.0°C
• Amritsar: 35.9°C
• Ludhiana: 35.6°C
• Chandigarh: 35.0°C
• Hoshiarpur: 34.1°C

Despite the rise, temperatures remain below normal by around 2.8°C overall in the state.

Western Disturbance Behind Weather Change

Meteorological conditions indicate that a Western Disturbance has become active, which has already reached the hilly regions. Its impact is now being felt across Punjab, leading to shifting weather patterns, strong winds, and chances of rainfall.

Rain activity is likely to begin late on May 11 or early May 12 and may continue intermittently.

Rain Likely Till May 14

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places across Punjab until May 14. After this period, weather conditions are likely to turn dry again, with no major change expected in maximum temperatures over the next few days.

May 12:
Thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 40–50 km/h likely in most districts including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Ferozepur. Rain also possible in many areas.

May 13:
Storm activity and strong winds likely in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala, and surrounding regions. Rain expected in Mohali and Rupnagar.

May 14:
Thunderstorms may continue in northern districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur with light to moderate rainfall in isolated pockets.
