Punjab Rain Alert: Thunderstorms Likely in 13 Districts; Check Here

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and thunderstorms in some areas of 13 districts of Punjab today. Chandigarh will also experience partly cloudy skies. Although a similar alert was issued yesterday (February 17th), no rain was recorded anywhere. The maximum temperature is currently 3.2 degrees above normal, reaching 29.2 degrees in Mansa. The weather will remain clear from February 19th to 23rd.

Winds will blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and lightning are likely at isolated locations in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa districts today, Wednesday. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations in these districts.

A western disturbance is now present in the form of cyclonic winds at an altitude of about 3.1 kilometers above sea level over central Pakistan and the surrounding Punjab region. Due to its influence, cyclonic circulation has persisted in the upper air up to about 1.5 kilometers above sea level over Punjab and surrounding areas. Another western disturbance is active over southeastern Pakistan and the surrounding region, extending up to about 7.6 kilometers above sea level and tilting northwestward with altitude.

2 to 3 Degrees Increase

According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected at some places today. Minimum temperatures are expected to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours. After this, temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. There will be no major change in temperatures after this.
