Over 3000 PRTC-Punjab Roadways buses to stay off roads as employees call 3-day strike

Punjab Roadways and PRTC (Punjab Road Transport Corporation) Contractual Employee Union has started a strike from Tuesday midnight till July 11, opening a front against the government. Due to this, more than 3000 buses of PRTC and Punjab Roadways will come off the roads. Although some buses are being driven by the permanent drivers of the department. In such situation, only a few buses are expected to run from each depot.

    Long-distance route buses affected most

Even before midnight on Tuesday, there was a huge decline in the movement of buses, as the employees had stopped driving buses on long-distance routes after evening. This affected the passengers going to Delhi, Haryana, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan the most.

Due to the strike of government buses, private bus operators made a lot of money. Passengers had to depend on Haryana Roadways and Himachal buses. Due to less buses at the counters, the passengers had to wait for a long time and they could leave for their destination after a long time.

The union made this announcement regarding its demands

The union officials, who are fighting for their pending demands, said that the strike will continue till their demands are met. The union leaders warned that if action is not taken on their demands, then a protest rally will be taken out in Chandigarh on July 10 and the houses of ministers will be surrounded.

The leaders of the Depot 1-2 unit of PRTC Union criticized the policies of the government. During the protest, the speakers said that the government is not showing seriousness on the pending demands, including the regularization of contract employees, an increase in salary, reinstatement of employees. This is why the union had to adopt the path of struggle.
