There is big news for those travelling by government buses in Punjab. Punjab Roadways PRTC and Punbus contract workers are scheduled to hold a bus strike today. Punjab Roadways Punbus PRTC Contract Workers Union Punjab 25/11 have called for a bus strike across Punjab in protest against the privatization of the transport department. According to the program, the strike will start at 12 noon.

The union leaders said that the government and the management are trying to open tenders for the provision of private buses i.e. kilometer scheme buses, which is strongly opposed by the organization, because the government and the management have been given all kinds of arguments in writing and verbally about the losses caused by these buses and the need to replace these kilometer scheme buses with government buses.

But the management is giving priority to private buses and is trying to privatize the transport department. Therefore, to get the kilometer scheme buses closed, to get the raw employees permanent, to get the contractor middlemen out, to get the service rules implemented, and to get all the demands resolved by the government, the strike will start by jamming the entire route of Punbus and PRTC buses from 12:00 today.

The union leaders said that last Wednesday, a meeting of the union, along with the transport department officials, was held at the residence of the Chief Minister of Punjab with Joint Secretary Navraj Singh Brar, but the demands of the organization could only be discussed in the meeting; no result was achieved. The officials, like every time, while promising to resolve the demands, assured to hold a meeting with the Chief Minister of Punjab soon, but none of the demands have been fulfilled yet.

Permanent dharna at the Chief Minister’s residence on the 18th

The leaders said that after this, at 2 pm, the Chairman and MD A dharna will be held in front of the PRTC residence and head office, and a permanent dharna will be held at the residence of the Chief Minister of Punjab in Chandigarh on 18-11-2025.

He appealed to all the comrades that the dharna in Chandigarh should be prepared as a permanent dharna, and they will return only after getting their demands met. Therefore, the committees of all the depots will be present in their depots tomorrow and will take all possible steps to make the given programs successful.
