Punjab SIR 2026: Citizens Turning 18 by October 1, 2026 Must Apply by September 12 to Register as Voters – CEO Punjab Anindita Mitra

Chandigarh: The deadline for filing claims and objections on the Draft Electoral Roll published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 in Punjab is September 12, 2026, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Anindita Mitra said on Wednesday.

The Draft Electoral Roll was published on August 13, 2026, as per the Election Commission of India’s directions. The Final Electoral Roll will be published on October 12, 2026.

Youth Turning 18 Urged to Register

Mitra appealed to citizens to check their names and details in the draft voter list and submit claims or objections before the September 12 deadline.

She especially urged young citizens who have attained or will attain 18 years of age on or before October 1, 2026, to submit Form 6 to register as new voters.

“Youth participation forms the cornerstone of a vibrant and resilient democracy,” Mitra said.

    NRIs Can Also Apply

Eligible overseas Indian citizens can enrol as voters by submitting Form 6A. Those whose names are already included in the draft roll can use Form 8 to correct entries, change their address or update other details.

Applications can be submitted through the ECI Voters’ Services Portal, ECINET mobile app, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), or the offices of EROs/AEROs.

Mitra also stressed that voting is not only a civic duty but a constitutional right that enables young citizens to participate in shaping the governance and future of the country.
