Punjab SIR 2026: 20 Lakh Forms Not Returned, 5.74 Lakh Deceased and 1.19 Lakh Duplicate Voters Identified

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra, while sharing the status of voter list revision under Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, stated that over 20 lakh verification forms have not been returned in the state, while verification of millions of voter records is still ongoing.

Over 20 Lakh Forms Not Returned

According to the CEO, over 20 lakh forms were not submitted during the voter verification drive. Additionally, 4.12 lakh voters were found whose verification could not be done because they were not found at the designated address.

Identification of Dead, Duplicate, and Unmapped Voters

5.74 lakh dead voters were identified during the SIR drive. Additionally, 1.19 lakh duplicate voter records were found. Furthermore, there are over 1.2 million voters whose records have not yet been verified.

Draft list on August 13, final voter list on October 12

The Chief Electoral Officer stated that the draft voter list will be published on August 13, 2026. Following this, there will be a one-month opportunity to file claims and objections. After all claims are settled, the final voter list will be released on October 12, 2026.

Appealing to voters not to panic

Anindita Mitra stated that voters whose records have not yet been verified need not panic. They can have their records verified by submitting the required documents during the claims and objections period.
