Punjab Textile & Sports Goods to Benefit from Budget, Says PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during his Punjab visit on Sunday that key sectors such as textiles, sports goods and MSMEs will benefit significantly from the Union Budget 2026–27. Addressing the public during celebrations at Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar — following the inauguration of the Halwara Airport terminal the Prime Minister pointed to major incentives and structural support for industry and exporters under the new fiscal plan.

Textile Sector and Mega Parks for Growth

PM Modi said the Budget has placed strong emphasis on the labour-intensive textile sector, unveiling a five-component integrated programme that includes schemes to improve fibres, expand employment, strengthen handloom and handicrafts, and modernise textile skills and clusters. A network of Mega Textile Parks is planned to drive value addition, reduce logistics costs and boost exports, especially for regions with textile clusters like Ludhiana and Jalandhar.

Under the Budget, initiatives such as Samarth 2.0 are aimed at upgrading textile skilling through industry-academia collaboration so that the next generation of workers is both technically skilled and globally competitive.

Sports Goods Sector Set for Strategic Support

Highlighting India’s potential to become a global hub for high-quality sports goods, the finance minister has also proposed dedicated support for sports equipment manufacturing, research, and innovation. The Budget includes funding and programme support that could benefit regions like Jalandhar — long known for its sports goods industry by promoting manufacturing and improved product design capabilities.

Complementing this is the launch of the Khelo India Mission, intended to transform the sports sector over the next decade by strengthening production, employment, and skill opportunities related to sports goods and physical culture.

MSMEs, Export Incentives and Sectoral Integration

The Prime Minister also drew attention to wider MSME support and export incentives in the Budget, including enhanced global market access through improved digital infrastructure such as the CHAMPIONS portal, which will help small and medium enterprises connect directly with international buyers and platforms. Jalandhar’s sports manufacturers and Ludhiana’s hosiery makers are expected to benefit from this targeted support.

Improving connectivity and logistics, part of the larger infrastructure push outlined in the Budget, is seen as another growth driver for Punjab’s industrial clusters, helping reduce cost burdens and improve competitiveness.

Regional Focus and Economic Impact

PM Modi reaffirmed that Budget 2026 highlights growth opportunities for cities such as Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, which form important industrial and manufacturing hubs in Punjab. Strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem through support for textiles, sports goods and MSMEs will also contribute to employment generation, exports and sustainable economic development in hard-working regions of the state.
