Punjab Vigilance Bribery Case: DGP’s Reader OP Rana surrenders in CBI court, says ‘I am being falsely implicated’

OP Rana, the reader of the DGP, who is involved in a bribery case in the Punjab Vigilance Office, surrendered in the CBI court late last night, after which the court sent him on a 7-day remand. The CBI is expecting many important revelations from Rana in this corruption case during his remand.

Rana is an accused in the FIR registered by the CBI in a bribery case of Rs 13 lakh related to officers posted in the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

According to information, the CBI had arrested three accused, Raghav Goyal, Vikas alias Vicky Goyal, and Ankit Wadhwa in this case on May 11. The CBI had registered this case on the complaint of an officer from Malout.

The claims by the CBI

The CBI claimed that a disproportionate assets (DA) case against the complainant, Amit Kumar, was pending with the Punjab Vigilance. According to the agency, accused Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal facilitated a meeting between the complainant and Rana at his office on April 29, 2026, during which Rana allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold-7 mobile handset for “Sahab” and himself, all the negotiations taking place in Chandigarh.

The CBI claimed that both the accused were acting as intermediaries for senior vigilance officials, including the DGP, Vigilance, Punjab, and were using their influence to assure the complainant that his case could be resolved.

According to the CBI, Rana assured the complainant that the complaint against him would be closed after he paid the bribe amount. The agency further claimed that during the sting operation, while the other accused were arrested with Rs 13 lakh in cash and a mobile phone, Rana managed to flee the scene.
